My first thoughts
surrounding this blog centered on sharing my story about the debilitating and
frustrating symptom, "vertigo".
I was told for years it was Meniere's Syndrome but received no long
lasting help. It's a scary and challenging disorder and many people still
have not found answers that make a difference for them. They all ask: " Is it from salt, from too much
endolymph in my semicircular canals, from
allergy, from stress or am I missing some neuro-chemical?" Some are told it occurs because a storm came
in last night or there is some other change in the weather. They, too, are frustrated in their attempts
to solve the problem and, maybe, save
their hearing. At the very least they do
not want "vertigo".
It is such a help that we now have the
internet to research this topic, locate helpful professionals and share with
others who also suffer with the problem.
My goal is to be part of this process and to share how I found
relief. I have not found a cure, but I
have found control. Perhaps you have
time to read my long story. It has not
been easy but I have learned a lot and am in a comfortable spot. It is interesting to note that, even as a child, I would always be sick on boat rides. I had to refrain from going on roller coasters and the Tea Cup ride at Disneyland, but could ride Ferris Wheels and ski. I have never had a migraine but I do have a history of "sinus" and menstrual headaches.
What I eat, the
types of food and beverages, has been on my mind for many years. I have either been dieting (trying to stay
slim over the years - and I know ALL the diets) or rotating and eliminating
foods for what I thought was just food sensitivities or allergies. Now there is even a longer list of forbidden
foods as you will read in my story. So,
I am always on the hunt for new items I can enjoy, or at least weave into my
routine on occasion. There is much out
there to keep one satisfied. I want to
pass these ideas on to others.
My original degrees were in Speech Pathology
and Communicative Disorders. After 6 years in that field, my husband and I
started a new adventure. For 32 years we
owned and operated a private Preschool and a Primary School. I am not in the medical field at all. I am not personally selling anything. I am merely sharing a story I hope will be
helpful. You will read in my notes that
in 2008 I truly had the rug pulled out from under me. It took 4 years to find the solution.
